Abstract

As of March 2018, the percentage of the poor (population with per capita expenditure per month under the Poverty Line) at Bangka Belitung Islands reached 5.25 percent, decreased by 0.05 percentage points  compared to September 2017 conditions which amounted to 5.30 percent.

·         Percentage of the urban poor in September 2017 by 3.00 percent rose to 3.09 percent in March 2018. While  the percentage of poor people in rural areas in September 2017 of 7.92 percent decreased to 7.76 percent in March 2018.

·         During the period September 2017-March 2018, the total population poor in urban areas rose by 1.05  thousand people (from23.04 thousand people in September 2017 to 24.09 thousand people in March 2018), while in rural areas fell as much 0.98 thousand people (from 53.16 thousand people in September 2017 to 52.18 thousand people in March 2018).

·         The role of food commodities against the Poverty Line is far greater than the role of non-food commodities (housing, clothing, education, and health). The contribution of the Food Poverty Line to the Poverty Line in March 2018 was 72.50 percent. This condition is not much different from the condition of September 2017 was recorded at 72.64 percent.

·         Types of food commodities that have great influence on the value of Poverty Line in urban and rural areas are rice, clove cigarettes filter, chicken meat, wet cake, eggs, and instant noodles. Meanwhile, for non-food commodities, the effect is the cost of housing, gasoline, electricity, and education.
