Abstract

  • In December 2019 inflation occurred 0.38 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 144.94.
  • Inflation occurred because of an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in the expenditure group index namely the foodstuffs group by 0.40 percent; processed foods, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco by 0.44 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel by 0.01 percent; health group of 0.01 percent; and the transportation, communication and financial services group by 1.20 percent. Meanwhile, the expenditure group that experienced a decrease in index was the clothing group by 0.01 percent. Education, recreation and sports groups are stable.
  • The calendar year inflation rate (January – December) 2019 was 2.31 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (December 2019 against December 2018) was 2.31 percent.
  • The price component regulated by the government experienced inflation of 1.33 percent, the volatile component experienced inflation of 0.35 percent and the core component experienced inflation of 0.06 percent.
  • From 82 CPI cities, 72 cities experienced inflation and 10 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Batam of 1.28 percent with CPI of 139.73 and the lowest of 0.01 percent occurred in Watampone with CPI of 135.06. While the highest deflation occurred in Manado by 1.88 percent with CPI of 138.334 and the lowest in the cities of Bukit Tinggi and Singkawang by 0.01 percent.
