Abstract

In September 2018 Tanjungpandan City experienced a deflation of 1.12 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 141.85.
Deflation occurred because of a decrease in prices as indicated by the decline in the index in two expenditure groups, namely: the foodstuffs group at 4.56 percent and the transportation, communication and financial services group at 0.81 percent. While the other five expenditure groups experienced price increases, namely: processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco groups rose by 0.55 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group by 0.19 percent; clothing group by 0.13 percent; health group by 0.09 percent; and recreation and sports education groups 2.51 percent.
The September 2018 calendar year inflation rate was 1.64 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (September 2018 to September 2017) was 3.74 percent.
The core component in September 2018 experienced inflation of 0.22 percent; volatile components experienced deflation of 4.97 percent; and the government regulated component experienced a deflation of 0.48 percent.
