Abstract

  • In September 2019, the level of expenditure inequality of the population of the Bangka Belitung Islands as measured by the Gini Ratio was 0.262. This figure decreased by 0.007 points when compared to the March 2019 Gini Ratio of 0.269. Meanwhile, when compared with the Gini Ratio in September 2018, it fell by 0.010 points from 0.272.
  • The Gini Ratio in urban areas in September 2019 was 0.272, down compared to the Gini Ratio in March 2019 and September 2018 which were respectively 0.278 and 0.289. While the Gini Ratio in rural areas in September 2019 was 0.223, down compared to the March 2019 Gini Ratio of 0.230 and an increase compared to the September 2018 Gini Ratio of 0.222.
  • Another measure of inequality that is often used is the percentage of expenditure in the lowest 40 percent population group. Based on this measure the level of inequality is divided into 3 categories, namely "high" if the figure is below 12 percent, "moderate" if the figure ranges from 12-17 percent, and "low" if the number is above 17 percent.
  • In September 2019, the distribution of expenditure in the lowest 40 percent group was 24.46 percent. This means that population expenditure is still in the category of low inequality. When broken down by region, in urban areas the figure was 23.87 percent, while in rural areas it was 26.83 percent, which means that both urban and rural were categorized as low inequality.
